1. Drink Water
Three quarters of your brain are water. If you dehydrate it by as much as a few percent, your cognitive skills won’t be up to par. This makes drinking water one of the best ways to improve memory. But how much water should you drink? Eight glasses a day is a good start, but some people may need more. Take your weight, divide it by two, and convert it to ounces. That’s how much water you need to drink in a day.
2. Supplement Your Diet with Omega-3 Acids
The omega-3 fatty acids contain ingredients that improve your brain’s activity. They have the most impact on the cerebral cortex, which is the part of the brain that’s in charge of your memory. You can get omega-3 supplements to take with water, or you can look for foods that have high omega-3 acid content. If you prefer the latter option, eat any type of fish a couple of times a week.
3. Get Physical
Exercise isn’t only important for your physical shape, but also for your mental health. One of the best ways to improve memory is to engage in physical activity on a regular basis. While you’re working out, your body creates a protein known as BDNF. This chemical helps your brain create new cells, which allows it to maintain its function. What’s more, it also helps expand the hippocampus, which is where your memory center is. So, take up the exercise a few times a week. There’s no need to go for something strenuous; one hour of speed-walking or jogging will do the trick.
